With the aim of mitigating soil contamination by the heavy metal lead, the study sought to determine the effect of bioaccumulation in Zea Mays, a phytoremediating plant. To achieve this, 360 kg of soil from the Cuñumbuqui landfill was used, distributed in 18 pots of 20 kg each, in which a total of 72 seeds were planted, with 4 seeds per pot, during an 8-week growth period. Subsequently, the 18 samples corresponding to the 6 triplicated treatments and the maize plants were collected for laboratory analysis using the acid digestion and atomic absorption reading method (ECA 3051A). The results were processed using statistical programs that included analysis of variance and mean comparison tests. A higher accumulation of lead was observed in the maize root system, with average values exceeding 5 ppm, suggesting that Zea Mays acts as a hyperaccumulator plant for lead.
