Illegal trafficking of timber forest products is a very lucrative environmental crime throughout the Peruvian rainforest. The objective of the research was to establish the effectiveness of the prosecution of illegal trafficking of forest products as an environmental crime in the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office of Alto Amazonas. The research is applied, descriptive, non-experimental, cross-sectional design; the population and sample of the study consisted of 32 fiscal files of illegal trafficking of forest products. The technique we applied as instruments was documentary analysis and semi-structured interview. The results showed that 6.3% of the prosecution files analyzed were sentenced; 50% of the prosecution files were archived because the perpetrators of the crime were not proven or there was no possibility of proving that the crime had occurred; 12.5% of the investigations were at the indictment stage; 21.9% were at the preparatory investigation stage; and 9.4% were archived because they were dismissed. Therefore, it was concluded that the effectiveness of the prosecution of illegal trafficking of timber products in the Specialized Environmental Prosecutor's Office is deficient.
