Pterigoplichthys pardalis (Castelnau, 1855) popularly known in Loreto as “carachama común” is a fish that is highly demanded by the Amazonian population due to the flavor of its meat. Despite being a well-known species in the Peruvian Amazon, its parasitic fauna is unknown. In this sense, the main objective of this study was to taxonomically identify the parasitic monogeneans in the gills of P. pardalis acquired in the Belén Market, in Loreto-Peru. Ten specimens of P. pardalis were acquired and transported to the Laboratory of Parasitology and Aquaculture Health of the Peruvian Amazon Research Institute (IIAP) for the corresponding parasitological analysis. The results of the gill analysis revealed the presence of three monogenean species: Unilatus unilatus Mizelle & Kritsky, 1967, Trinigyrus peregrinus Nitta & Nagasawa, 2016 and Gyrodactylus sp. The morphological characteristics that allowed taxonomic identification were based mainly on the shape and size of the sclerotized structures such as the copulatory complex and the haptor. The calculation of the parasitological indices indicated U. unilatus as the species with the highest prevalence and intensity of infestation.
