Abstract

A sample of 383 animals (121 stallions, 129 mares and 133 geldings) were measured, and 16 morphometric measurements (including body weight and two articular angles: sacro-coccygeal and scapulo-humeral) were evaluated. Rump length was correlated to those angles. Therefore, in the selection criteria of the Colombian criollo horse breed, special importance should be given to the length of the rump as a conditioning parameter of the functional body angles. The data offered here may be of interest for breeders, trainers and buyers to avoid purchasing horses with limited potential due to serious conformation defects.
