Effect of Moringa oleifera seed powder on the turbidity of wastewater in Cajamarca, Peru

Abstract

The treatment processes used in the main cities of Peru are not efficient enough to eliminate wastewater. The objective was to evaluate the effect of Moringa oleifera seed powder on the turbidity of wastewater from oxidation wells in the district of Cajamarca, 2020. In the test, seven wastewater samples were collected in 500 mL beakers, one of which served as a control to measure the parameters considered (turbidity, conductivity, temperature and pH). Then, doses of coagulant (0.5; 0.8; 1 g) were mixed in three wastewater samples for a period of 10 minutes at 150 and 200 RPM. The different weights of Moringa oleifera influence the turbidity of the wastewater inversely. The data show no significant difference between turbidity and RPM (p 0.67) indicating that the values are similar or no difference. The different weights of the Moringa influence the turbidity of the wastewater, the optimum revolution or agitation speed is 200 RPM, the optimum weight is 0.8 g. Moringa decreases pH and increases conductivity and temperature.
