When talking about proteins or polysaccharides, one always tends to think about food and its relationship with the health of the human being. However, these molecules, also known as biopolymers, have very interesting functional properties for materials engineering. Thus, engineering has studied these properties and the existing interactions for the development of bioplastics, in order to face the challenge of petroleum-derived plastics. On the other hand, it is also possible to apply biopolymers as wall material to encapsulate value-added compounds and offer powdered products that are easy to handle and transport.
