This study evaluates the carbon footprint generated by tourism activities at the rural recreational site Tío Yacu, located in the Peruvian Amazon. The objective was to estimate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions associated with services and tourist visits during 2024. Surveys were administered to 351 visitors, and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Standard was applied to identify emission sources and quantify carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂ eq) levels. The main contributions originated from motorized transportation, food preparation, and the use of electrical equipment. Total emissions reached 1431.59 kg CO₂ eq, with an average of 4.0786 kg CO₂ eq per visitor. Scope 3 accounted for 64.15% of total emissions, mainly due to beef consumption and transportation by motorized tricycles and motorcycle taxis. The results highlight the need to adopt clean energy sources, promote sustainable mobility alternatives, and strengthen environmental education, actions that would improve the climate performance of the destination and serve as a reference for other rural tourism centers.
