Key factors of competitiveness promoting sustainable tourism entrepreneurship in the northern zone of Manabí province

Business development in the tourism sector is essential for the economic growth and sustainability of tourist destinations in Ecuador. Tourism entrepreneurship face critical challenges, such as a lack of robust business models, inadequate human resource management, and limited integration of emerging technologies, which negatively impact their competitiveness and sustainability. This study adopted an exploratory mixed-methods approach, integrating qualitative and quantitative methods to identify the key factors that promote the competitiveness of sustainable tourism entrepreneurship in the northern zone of the province of Manabí. A survey was conducted with 74 entrepreneurships to evaluate competitiveness factors, with an emphasis on sustainable business model innovation in the Ecuadorian context. The results highlighted the need to implement concrete strategies to strengthen areas such as fiscal incentives, access to financing, training programs, and strategic alliances. Improvements in these areas can significantly boost the competitiveness and sustainability of the tourism sector in the region.
