Abstract

In nursing, workload and quality of life reflect the balance between the physical, cognitive, and emotional demands of the job. This study aimed to examine the relationship between workload and quality of life among nursing professionals in the emergency department of Hospital II-1 Moyobamba in 2025. The specific objectives were to identify the level of workload and quality of life of the staff and to determine which dimension of workload is most closely related to quality of life. This was a non-experimental, descriptive-correlational study with 93 nurses, using validated instruments and SPSS v25 analysis (Spearman scale and multiple linear regression). The findings revealed moderate levels of workload in the physical (64.5%), mental (50.5%), and psycho-affective (62.4%) dimensions, and a moderate quality of life in the physical (51.6%), material (54.8%), social (52.7%), emotional (50.5%), and developmental/activity (66.7%) dimensions. Furthermore, mental workload showed a stronger association with quality of life (β = 0.435; p = 0.001), and the correlation between workload and quality of life was negative and significant (ρ = -0.482; p = 0.000). It is concluded that a heavier workload reduces nurses' well-being, necessitating improvements in hospital management.
