Umbilical cord entanglement was recognized as one of the most frequent funicular alterations at birth, whose clinical relevance was determined by its structural behavior in newborns. The objective of this study was to analyze the morphological characteristics of umbilical cord entanglement according to the number of loops, anatomical location, degree of compression, and cord length. A quantitative research approach was adopted, with a non-experimental design and a descriptive-analytical scope. Data were collected through documentary analysis of medical records, using structured 12-item guide. Statistical processing included descriptive and inferential analysis. The results showed a predominance of single-loop entanglement (88,1 %), cervical location (98,3 %), lax compression (91,9 %), and normal cord length (93,3 %). A statistically significant association was observed between location and degree of compression, as well as between the number of loops and cord compression; additionally, extreme cord lengths were associated with tight compression. It is concluded that umbilical cord entanglement predominantly presented a benign morphology; however, certain configurations increased the risk of structural compromise, highlighting the importance of comprehensive morphological assessment for adequate prenatal and intrapartum surveillance.
