Abstract

This study was developed in response to concerns about the emotional strain caused by high job demands in nursing. Its purpose was to determine the effects of workload on the mental health of nursing staff at the Morales Health Center in 2025. A quantitative approach was used, with a non-experimental, basic, descriptive, and cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 32 professionals, who completed structured and validated questionnaires on workload and mental health. The results showed that the most affected dimensions of workload were multitasking (68.7 %), coping with emotionally difficult situations (62.5 %), and performing highly complex tasks (62.5 %). Regarding mental health, the main impacts were observed in personal satisfaction and autonomy (62.5 %), followed by self-control and problem-solving (56.2 %). The analysis demonstrated that increased job demands were associated with a progressive decline in psychological well-being, confirming the negative effect of workload on the mental health of nursing staff. These findings underscored the importance of implementing institutional strategies aimed at improving working conditions and strengthening emotional well-being.
